Official launch: Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE Coupe
Mercedes-Benz has launched its latest addition to the three-pointed star marque’s family line – the new GLE Coupe and GLE. Inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the new GLE Coupe and GLE aims to provide replacement for the existing M-Class.
The GLE Coupe
Offering a unique styled element of a coupe profile, combined with the robust quality of an SUV, the GLE Coupe is offered in two different variants – namely the GLE 400 and the GLE 450 4MATIC AMG.
The entry of the GLE Coupe into the market serves as a milestone for Mercedes-Benz, marking the first ever four-door coupe SUV to debut. The GLE Coupe will feature Mercedes-Benz’s new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission gearbox, first seen on the CLS-Class, as well as features such as 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
The GLE 400 offers drivers 333 horses and 480 Nm of torque, slightly lower than the GLE 450 4MATIC AMG’s at 367 horses and 520 Nm. The 400 should get you to the century mark in slightly above 6.0 seconds, and the 450 will hit it in 5.7. Both variants house 3.0 litre V6 bi-turbo plants under their hood.
The GLE 400 non-coupe model offers the same heart as the E400 and the C400 sedans, a 3.0 litre V6 bi-turbo engine. Putting out 333 horses and 480 Nm of torque, the GLE 400 will hit the 100 km/h mark in 6.1 seconds.
The GLE 400 is mated to the older Mercedes-Benz 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic gearbox, as well as the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. It will offer features such as LED headlamps, keyless entry and start-stop, Harmon Kardon surround sound system, and temperature controlled cup holders on the inside.
